Since their foundation in 1998, múm have forged a sublimely bright, warm and rich take on electronica, imprinting it with their own unique sound and character. What sets the band apart from so many of their peers is both their strong, playfully haunted melodies, and sorcerous integration of analogue and digital technologies. Playing an assortment of instruments and percussion alongside some crisply programmed electronic washes, beats, dingdongs and beep-beeps as well as found sounds and field recordings, the band’s talent, inventiveness and nose for musical exploration is immediately audible |

Gravenhurst is the collective name for the music of singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Nick Talbot, who lives in Bristol, England and is currently signed to Warp Records. Gravenhurst is dark and highly atmospheric, influenced by the melodic noise of My Bloody Valentine, the reverb-laden vocal harmonies of Simon and Garfunkel, and guitarists such as Richard Thompson, Johnny Marr and Thurston Moore. Talbot is an artist who cannot sit still, but constant in the Gravenhurst sound-world are his fragile yet powerful voice, intricate guitar work and mysterious lyrical themes. Gravenhurst's latest album, The Western Lands, was released on 10 September 2007. May 2008 saw the release of a double A-side single, 'Nightwatchman's Blues'/'Farewell, Farewell'. While Nick began performing solo, since 1999 many other Bristol musicians have propelled Gravenhurst into a powerful live band, touring extensively across Europe, and the USA, both as a headline act and as support to bands including Broadcast, Belle & Sebastian, Explosions In The Sky and Animal Collective. Nick now returns to his sonic-folk roots, playing solo with a stint of summer festival slots and an autumn tour of Europe. Nick will be playing material from all the 5 albums, so far, accompanied with guitars and various drone-making electrical devices. You can even shout requests… |

The Victorian English Gentlemens Club are guitar bass drums and voices from Cardiff. They will freely describe their music as Pop although they sometimes play songs without a chorus. It has also been described as Rock, although they have been known to use a glockenspiel, and Punk, despite their enjoyment of effects pedals and natural fibres. They are currently working on their second album. little short of spectacular" Uncut "a joy unheard since the B-52s" Q "sexy stripped down rock'n'roll" NME ''demented, makes no sense at all, yet utterly brilliant'' PLAN B "The energy coming from the trio is something else - and you wouldn't mess with that drummer in her shocking pink prom dress" Jim Carroll Irish Times |

The Warsaw Village Band describes itself as "hardcore folk," but since 2004's People's Spring and the forthcoming Uprooting prove that the band can't be so easily pigeonholed. This Polish sextet may strum, bang, and blow reverently on "Traditional Rural Polka," but the group has also played at punk-rock tempos, collaborated with a hiphop DJ, and released bhangra and trance remixes. Rarely mellow, the three-man/three-woman unit features two pounding drummers plus noisy, atmospheric cello, hurdy-gurdy, dulcimer, Polish fiddle, and occasional brass. On top of their frantic—yet skillfully played—rhythms, the women strikingly employ a method of warbling used by Polish shepherds and known as "white voice." Similar to the high-pitched harmony utilized by some distaff Scandinavians, this halff-sung, half-shouted technique beautifully conveys drama through intonation alone. |

We're a bunch of friends that grew up with each other in a little seaside town in Ireland called Wicklow and we've all been playing in bands since we could pick up instruments. We finally all got together a couple of years back and built this thing called Hybrasil, which we're kind of proud of. So far we've been lucky enough to play throughout Ireland and the UK with bands like The La's, Republic Of Loose, Alfie, Frank and Walters and Idlewild. |

With a string of releases on Plug Research, Hefty, Tigerbeat 6, Eastern Development, and Alpha Pup, Daedelus has refined a style that has no imitators. Contrasting IDM styled cut-ups with childlike arrangements from the 30s and 40s, he has created a sound that is entirely new. His productions find the hidden common denominator between modern electronics and sampled music from days gone by. Recording out of Santa Monica, Daedelus also incorporates hip-hop into his mix, with guest spots from Busdriver, MF Doom, TTC, Mike Ladd, Absract Rude, Madlib, and High Priest (Anti-Pop Consortium). His live show, which utilizes a custom-built sample trigger device and software package, has amazed audiences across the US, Europe, and Japan and secured his reputation as one of the most exciting producers in electronic music. |

Sometimes there are moments in history that are quite remarkable!!! Like the heroic revolt of Spartacus or the new view of the universe by Kopernikus or - in our days - the story of three kids that were captured in the mid 80`s by a musical style that was long gone, in fact, never really happened in their home town of Munich/Germany. It was the explosive dynamics and the rough sounds of numerous late 60`s and early 70`s independent funk bands that sublimed their whole musical approach towards a even more defined stylistic expression. After early excursions through the universe of rare groove 45`s (collecting records and discerning the deeper contents of this music), they started to create their own small renaissance of this special style by founding their 7" label "Hotpie & Candy Records" to release first creative moments (yeah!). Using specific equipment and recording techniques they developed a trademark sound that laid a foundation for a unique output that goes far beyond your average "Soul Brother No.1" style funk. |

Its the ability to find the in-between spaces where musical boundaries waver and explode into each that set another Joburg rock posse, Blk Jks apart. Forget that the band happens to be one of the only black rock crews in the country at the moment - that’s not what makes them so damn hip. What makes them hip is that they’re South African and damn it, they sound it. In fact listening to Blk Jcks is kind of like taking a slow cruise through Jozi with your windows rolled down. Afro-jazz riffs segue into tribal rhythms, which swagger through street-level sociology before exploding into hardcore bursts of noise, kwaai kwaito beats and addictive rock hooks. It’s not funk rock. It’s not punk rock. It’s not indie rock. It’s just music, and it’ll infect your mind if you let it. |

Weighing in at 100% Dub, this is one of Ireland's newest and freshest acts. Seasoned veterns of the Irish reggae scene, Dan, Damo and Larry have spent the last year hiding away in DI studios - writing, reasoning, smoking and producing some of the finest dub sounds this side of the pond. Dan handles mix and melodica, Damo looks after percussion and FX, and Lariman navigates the mic in a style like no other. |

W.M. & T.R. are currently recording their debut al-bum with Mr. Fergal Lawler ex 'THE CRANBERRIES' drummer !! (more info available in our blog above) Although they have not released anything ...yet, national T.V. and radio broadcasters TG4 and 2FM have invited them into their studios to play live. Radio station 2FM recently invited them in to record 3 live acoustic tracks for Cormac Battle's "Wireless" show....They later recorded a live show for broadcast. LIVE 95FM, SPIN FM, Limerick West Radio,WIRED FM, RED FM, BEAT FM, and Cork College Campus radio followed suit inviting them in for live studio sessions and interviews. Although still a relatively new band they've had the good fortune to have already shared stages and shed many rock tears (i.e. sweat, a lot) with many Irish + UK heroes ( check blogs for HOTPRESS review of a recent gig with Dirty Pretty Things). In their first year as a band, then 3-piece, Walter Mitty & The Realists appeared at the HARD WORKING CLASS HEROES Festival '07... ......They are currently alive and gigging so keep an eye and an ear out for them, they promise they won't abuse them....much. |
